How today's puzzle plays
Use a broad first guess that covers common attributes, then read the arrows before you commit.
Two informative guesses beat five hopeful ones.
New to the game? The Dotadle guide explains every mode and how the colour feedback works.
Classic, Ability, Quote and Loading Screen answers for both time zones are in the table at the top, each labelled Europe or America with its puzzle number. The rest of the page is the standing guide to Dotadle — the Dota 2 guesser in the Wordle family, played at dotadle.net — covering its four modes, what the client's 126-hero roster data says about the Classic columns, and how to use the table without spoiling more than you want.
The four modes
Classic asks for a hero and colours seven columns on each guess: gender, species, position(s), attribute, range type, complexity and release year — green for an exact match, orange for a partial one, red for none, with an arrow on release year. Quote shows a line the hero says during a game. Ability shows one ability icon. Loading Screen shows a crop of a loading screen that zooms out with each miss. Each mode is its own puzzle with its own answer.
The menu also offers Infinite, "the unlimited Classic mode", once unlocked. The table at the top covers the four daily modes only.
Classic, in order
Attribute is the cleanest split in the data — 35 Strength, 34 Agility, 34 Intelligence, 23 Universal — and Range Type sharpens it, since 33 of 35 Strength heroes are Melee and 33 of 34 Intelligence heroes Ranged. Species is uneven: 47 values, Human the largest at 27 heroes, and 25 values held by one hero each, so a green there is often the answer.
Release Year carries the only arrow, but 60 of 126 heroes share 2004, so it mostly separates the early roster from the 15 heroes dated 2013 or later. Complexity (Easy 55, Medium 58, Hard 13) and Position(s) are tie-breakers; a green on Hard leaves 13 heroes. If you are still guessing after six tries, Classic unlocks a Quote Clue (a random line the hero says in game); after twelve, an Ability Clue (one of the hero's ability icons, unnamed); and after eighteen, a Loading Screen Clue (a cropped section of a loading screen featuring the hero). Each clue is a small recognition puzzle of its own, so a player who knows the voice lines can often finish on guess seven. After a win, the clue section shows the details you had not unlocked.
Ability, Quote and Loading Screen
These are recognition modes and the client gives each one help: Ability adds the ability's name as a clue and has optional grey-filter and rotation settings; Quote has an audio clue; Loading Screen widens its crop on every miss and may come from a screen featuring several heroes. In our files the 164 answers across all four modes named 101 different heroes. Every past answer is in the Dotadle archive, and the Dotadle hub explains the Classic columns in detail.
Reading the table without spoiling yourself
The table at the top lists, for each region, the mode and the hero's name — nothing else, because the game's public puzzle file carries names, not Classic columns. Some ways to use it:
- Check the puzzle number the game shows against the number in the table before reading a name.
- Cover the America rows if you play Europe, or the reverse.
- If you only want a nudge, use the hub's column counts to plan two guesses instead of reading the name.
- For the recognition modes, the archive shows which heroes have come up before.
Regions and sources
Dotadle's Time zone setting offers Europe (midnight at UTC+2) and America (midnight at UTC−6). Both run the same numbered sequence; America reaches each number first. Our pipeline, described on the editorial policy page, reads the game's public puzzle file several times a day and publishes automatically, so each date's table shows what each region was serving at our last read — usually the same number, sometimes America one ahead. Sister games with daily pages in the same format: Pokedle, LoLdle, Smashdle, Narutodle and OnePiecedle, all compared on the Dle games hub.
Species, complexity and the odd attributes
A few values in the roster data are rare enough to settle a game. Other gender: six heroes (Arc Warden, Enigma, Io, Morphling, Phoenix, Puck). Hard complexity: thirteen. Range Type listed as both Melee and Ranged: one, Troll Warlord. Strength with Ranged: two heroes; Intelligence with Melee: one. No position listed: Kez and Ringmaster. If one of these turns green or orange, the candidate list is short enough to write down, and the Dotadle hub has the full counts for every column.
Which heroes our archive shows
Our 40 daily files (2 September – 11 October 2026) hold Classic puzzles #992 to #1032 — 41 different heroes, no repeats. Agility (13) and Intelligence (12) answers outnumbered Strength and Universal (8 each); 24 were dated 2004 and one was a Hard hero. Across the four modes, five heroes answered three times each (Bloodseeker, Bounty Hunter, Magnus, Nyx Assassin, Razor). Six weeks is too short to call any of that a pattern; the archive lists every answer by mode and region.
A worked Classic
Computed from the client's roster data, not played. Answer: Dark Seer (Europe #1031 on 10–11 October 2026). Opener Juggernaut returns Gender green, Species red, Position(s) red, Attribute red, Range Type green, Complexity green, Release Year red ↑ — nine heroes fit. Second guess Undying returns Release Year green and Attribute red, and only Dark Seer still fits, so the third guess solves it. By the same calculation, Mirana is the opener that leaves the fewest heroes on average (2.8).
Regions, again
The labels beside each row say Europe or America, and the puzzle number is the reliable check: on 11 October 2026 our table showed Europe #1031 and America #1032, and #1032 reached Europe at its next midnight. If a name here does not match your game, compare numbers first.
Ability mode: reading an icon
The client asks "Which Hero has this ability?" and shows only the icon. After six guesses it unlocks the Ability Name Clue, the ability's name. The Challenger zone adds a grey filter and random rotation for anyone who wants it harder, and the client says either can be switched off at any time. Our table records the hero, not the ability.
Quote and Loading Screen
Quote: guess which Hero says the sentence during a game; the Audio Clue, unlocked after six guesses, plays it, and you can hear it after solving. Quotes in languages the game does not support are automatically translated, with a toggle for the original. Loading Screen: guess which Hero is featured; each try zooms out, the crop can come from a screen with several Heroes, and the full image appears once you solve it. Both are recall rather than deduction.
Streaks and regions
The game's statistics show games won, average guesses, one-shots, current streak and max streak. They live on your device, but the settings include a data transfer: export a token valid for 24 hours and import it elsewhere to replace that device's streaks and stats. Each region is its own puzzle sequence, so switching time zone mid-day can show a different number. Our pipeline is described on the editorial policy page.
Names, and a note on Universal
Names in our table are copied from the game's puzzle file, which uses the roster names the client lists — Nature's Prophet, Outworld Destroyer, Wraith King and so on — so they match what you type in the game.
Universal is one of four values in the Attribute column, which the client defines as the hero's main attribute "as stated by the game". It is the smallest group, 23 heroes including Abaddon, Magnus, Void Spirit and Windranger, so a Universal green leaves fewer candidates than any other attribute green.
One oddity worth knowing: the help screen says Release Year runs "from 2014 to today", but the roster data dates heroes from 2004 to 2024. The arrows follow the data, so plan your guesses on the data's years.
