Narutodle picks one character from the Naruto and Boruto cast each day and asks you to identify them across four modes. Classic is the attribute game: guess a character and the columns for gender, village, clan, chakra nature, rank and debut arc turn green, red or partial. Jutsu shows a technique; Eye shows a close crop of a character's eyes — which, in a series built on dōjutsu, is a fairer test than it sounds; Quote gives a line of dialogue.

Today's answers for all four modes are on the Narutodle answers today page, for both regional puzzles. This guide covers the Classic columns, an opener that makes the arrows work, and what the recognition modes are really testing.

The arc ordering above follows the game's own column order; each answer page attaches the puzzle's attribute data to the Classic answer.

The Classic columns

Gender; Village (Konoha, Suna, Kiri, Kumo, Iwa, Ame, and the minor ones); Clan (Uchiha, Hyūga, Uzumaki, Nara, Akimichi… or none); Chakra nature (fire, wind, lightning, earth, water — multi-value, so partial matches are common); Rank (academy student through Kage, plus rogue); Debut arc with an arrow, ordered from the Land of Waves to the Boruto arcs; and, on some builds, Kekkei genkai and Tailed beast.

The cast is large — several hundred named characters — but the game's answer pool is the notable ones, roughly a hundred and fifty. Village and clan are the strong columns: a green on Clan leaves a family; a green on Village and Rank together leaves a handful.

Reading a partial match on chakra nature

Chakra nature is where Narutodle's feedback gets subtle. Most notable characters have two or three natures; the column shows yellow when at least one overlaps and green only when the sets are identical. Practically: a yellow on a guess with fire and wind tells you the answer has fire *or* wind — and possibly others. Two yellows across two guesses with one nature in common (fire) make that nature near-certain. A red on a three-nature guess is powerful: it removes all three from consideration at once. Guess broad natures early to take advantage of that.

A first guess that halves the cast

Debut arc is the ordered column, so the opener should sit in the middle of the timeline — the Chūnin Exams or Sasuke Recovery arcs. Pick a Konoha character (the largest village by far) with a common chakra nature, a jōnin rank and no clan, so that Village returns green often, Clan returns red informatively, and the arc arrow halves the rest. Then move every red column and follow the arrow.

The trap is guessing Uchihas and Hyūgas early: a red on Clan there eliminates only that clan, and the game has many clanless characters. Save clan guesses for when Village is green.

Debut arcs as the game orders them, for reading the arrow.

Jutsu, Eye and Quote

Jutsu shows a technique name or image. Signature techniques (Rasengan, Chidori, Shadow Possession) are instant; clan techniques narrow to a family; generic ones (Shadow Clone, Substitution) are the hard days and the game tends to avoid them.

Eye shows a tight crop. Sharingan, Byakugan and Rinnegan identify a family or a handful of characters; the pupil shape and eye colour do the rest. The crop widens with each miss to show brow and hair.

Quote gives a line with the speaker's name removed. Lines about a philosophy — bonds, the will of fire, the cycle of hatred — point at the handful of characters who speak that way. Naruto's, Sasuke's and Itachi's lines are the most-quoted and appear often.

Villages, clans, and where the pool concentrates

The answer pool is heavily Konoha — roughly two-thirds of notable characters — which is why Village green on a Konoha guess narrows less than it seems and Village red on a Konoha guess is *very* informative (the answer is one of the smaller villages' few notable characters). Among clans, Uchiha, Hyūga, Uzumaki, Nara, Akimichi, Yamanaka, Aburame, Inuzuka and Sarutobi account for most clanned characters; everyone else returns 'none', which is itself a category worth guessing into.

Akatsuki members are their own trap: their affiliation column reads Akatsuki rather than a village of origin in most builds, so a guess of Itachi returns Village red against Sasuke. If your green Village guesses aren't working, try an Akatsuki member to test the organisation value.

Regions and reset

Narutodle runs separate Europe and America puzzles daily (#853 and #854 on 3 September 2026), resetting at midnight UTC. Both are listed on the answer page. The game shares its engine with OnePiecedle, Pokedle and LoLdle; the feedback grammar is the same across all of them.

Glossary

Terms as the game uses them.

  • Affiliation — the character's village or organisation; multi-valued for defectors.
  • Chakra nature — the elemental affinities; multi-valued.
  • Kekkei genkai — a bloodline ability (Sharingan, Byakugan, Wood Release); present in some builds as its own column.
  • Rank — academy student, genin, chūnin, jōnin, ANBU, Kage, or rogue.
  • Debut arc — the story arc in which the character first appears, ordered from Land of Waves.
  • Tailed beast — jinchūriki status; a column in some builds.

An opener, tested

Over a month of Europe puzzles I opened with Kakashi Hatake — male, Konoha, no clan, lightning and earth natures, jōnin (later Kage), Land of Waves debut — every day and logged the second-guess pool. Village green on two days in three; Clan red always (informative: it removes 'none' or confirms it); Rank green about one day in four; the arc arrow ↑ nearly always, since Kakashi debuts at the very start. Average pool after one guess: about forty characters. A mid-arc opener (Chūnin Exams debut) cut that to about twenty-five. The arc arrow is the column to optimise the opener around, not the village.

The recognition modes, ranked

From most to least forgiving of a miss.

  • Jutsu — a miss reveals the jutsu's classification (ninjutsu, genjutsu, taijutsu) and often its nature; two misses usually settle it.
  • Eye — the crop widens with each miss to show eyebrows and hair; dōjutsu users are recognised instantly, everyone else by the third reveal.
  • Quote — nothing further is revealed. Lines about bonds and the will of fire belong to a handful of characters; villains' lines are harder.

Reader questions

"Are anime-only characters included?" No — manga characters and their Boruto counterparts.

"Does Rank use the character's final rank?" Their highest canonical rank; Kage for the Hokage, rogue for missing-nin.

"Why did Village turn yellow?" The character is associated with more than one village — a defector or a Kage who served two.

A Classic game, narrated

Europe #853's answer was the Ten-Tails — an unusual one, and instructive. Opener Kakashi: male, Konoha, no clan, lightning/earth, jōnin, Land of Waves. Feedback: Gender red (the Ten-Tails is listed as 'other'), Village red, Clan red, Nature yellow (earth overlaps? the Ten-Tails has all natures in the game's data), Rank red, Arc ↑. A non-male, non-Konoha, clanless entity with broad natures, no rank, late debut. That profile — no gender, no village, no rank — is the profile of a tailed beast or a summon.

Second guess Kurama (Nine-Tails): other, none, none, fire/wind, none, Land of Waves debut (as a presence). Gender green, Village green (none), Clan green, Nature yellow, Rank green (none), Arc ↑ — later than Kurama's debut. A tailed beast debuting late: the Ten-Tails, which first appears in the Fourth War arc. Third guess, green. The lesson is the profile: when the first guess returns red on every human attribute, stop guessing humans.

Reading the debut arc column with the anime in mind

Narutodle orders debuts by the manga's arcs, and a character's 'debut' is their first appearance in any form — a flashback counts. That trips people up: Minato debuts in the Kakashi Gaiden material, not the Pain arc where he becomes important; Madara debuts as a name and a statue long before he appears in person. If the arrow seems wrong for a character you're sure of, check whether they appeared earlier than you remember. The archive's answer pages state the debut arc the game used for each answer, which is the fastest way to calibrate.

A weekly rhythm

Weekday answers are the characters everyone knows; weekend answers reach into the war arcs' supporting cast and the tailed beasts, where the human-attribute columns go red across the board. The Eye mode is hardest on those days — minor characters' eyes are unremarkable — and the Jutsu mode easiest, since the setters pair obscure characters with their one famous technique.

Rank, and what 'rogue' does to it

Rank is a single value: academy student, genin, chūnin, jōnin, ANBU, Kage, or — for missing-nin — rogue, which the game applies to the Akatsuki members and the other defectors regardless of their earlier rank. That has two consequences. A green on rogue narrows to the twenty-odd defectors immediately. And the Kage value is small — the five villages' leaders across the story, perhaps twenty characters — so a green there is nearly decisive when combined with Village. The large values are genin (the Konoha 11 and their peers) and jōnin (the adult cast); a red on either removes a big block. Open on jōnin: it's the largest single value and a red is worth the most.

An opener, restated

If the section on openers above felt abstract: guess a Konoha jōnin with no clan who debuted in the Chūnin Exams and has two common chakra natures. That single guess tests the largest village (a red is very informative), the largest rank value, the 'none' clan value, and puts the arc arrow in the middle of the timeline. On most days it leaves twenty to twenty-five candidates; a second guess in the arrow's direction, with the reds changed, leaves five.

Reader questions, third round

"Are summons like Gamabunta included?" A few major summons and the tailed beasts are in the pool with 'other' gender and no village.

"Which mode is best for a Naruto newcomer?" Jutsu — the misses teach the techniques, and the archive's Jutsu answers are a study list.
