LoLdle answers and strategy: Classic, Quote, Ability, Emoji and Splash, and the champion-splitting first guess

Classic's seven columns

After each guess the game reveals seven properties of the champion you typed: Gender, Position(s), Species, Resource, Range type, Region(s) and Release year. The help screen defines the colours: green means the property is an exact match, orange means a partial match, and red means there is no overlap between your guess and the answer. On the release-year column the red tile also carries an arrow showing whether the answer's value is above or below your guess.

The help screen also defines each column. Gender is Male, Female or Other — in the roster data 102 champions are male, 68 female and three (Blitzcrank, Fiddlesticks, Kindred) Other. Positions are the roles where the champion's play rate was above 20% over the past six months across all ranks. Species can hold several values (89 champions have two or more). Range type is Melee, Ranged or both — five champions carry both. Region is where the champion comes from or lives; an unknown origin is marked Runeterra, and 51 champions list more than one region.

The splitting first guess

Release year is the only column with an order, so it is the only one where a wrong guess points somewhere. The roster is front-loaded: 42 of the 173 champions are dated 2009, and 109 were released between 2009 and 2012, with the median release date in November 2011. A guess from 2011 therefore splits the list into 66 champions released earlier, 24 in the same year and 83 later — a far more even cut than a guess from 2014 or 2020, which leaves most of the roster on one side of the arrow.

Because 35 champions list two roles, an orange is common on Position, and it only says that one of your guess's roles is shared. Jungle (50 champions), Top (49) and Middle (46) are the largest groups and Bottom the smallest (25).

A Classic game, computed

This example is computed, not played: it applies the help screen's colour rules to the roster data in LoLdle's code (read 11 October 2026). The answer is Zilean, the Classic answer for puzzle #1557, which our files record for Europe on 11 October 2026. Zilean is male, Support, Human/Magicborn, Mana, Ranged, from Runeterra, Icathia and Shurima, released in 2009.

Guess 1 — Ahri (female, Middle, Vastayan, Mana, Ranged, Ionia, 2011). Gender red, Position red, Species red, Resource green, Range green, Region red, Release year red with a down arrow. Only ten of the 173 champions fit all seven tiles: Corki, Ezreal, Fiddlesticks, Karthus, Kog'Maw, Swain, Teemo, Twitch, Urgot and Zilean. Guess 2 — Lux (female, Middle/Support, Human/Magicborn, Mana, Ranged, Demacia, 2010). Position orange, Species green, Release year still down — and Zilean is the only champion left that matches. Guess 3 is the answer.

Another opener shows the same arithmetic. Jinx (female, Bottom, Human/Chemically Altered, Mana, Ranged, Zaun, 2013) gets Species orange and a down arrow and leaves seven candidates, Zilean among them. A second guess of Soraka — Support, released 2009 — turns Position and Release year green and leaves Zilean alone.

The recognition modes

Quote shows a sentence the champion says during a game or during champion select. After six tries an audio clue lets you listen to the line. Where League of Legends is not available in your language, the line is marked as automatically translated, with the original one click away.

Ability shows one ability icon; the ability's name unlocks as a clue after six tries, and after a win a bonus question asks which spell it was — Passive, Q, W, E or R. Challenger options add a grey filter or a random rotation.

Emoji describes the champion with a sequence of emoji. Each guess reveals a new one, everyone sees the same sequence, and after winning you can see all of them.

Splash shows a section of a splash art and zooms out a bit with each try. The crop can come from the champion's original art or from any skin, and a bonus question asks for the splash name once you have the champion.

Europe and America, and the reset

LoLdle's Time zone setting offers two daily puzzles: Europe, with midnight at UTC+2, and America, with midnight at UTC−6. They are not separate answer lists. In our files for 2 September to 11 October 2026, every puzzle number recorded in both regions had the same champion in all five modes; the regions differ only in when they move on. On 24 of those 40 dates both regions showed the same number when our fetcher last ran; on the other 16 America was one number ahead. HintSheet's answer page lists both, with numbers, so you can match the number your game shows.

Where the answers come from

LoLdle's site loads each day's answers from a public cache file, cache.loldle.net/cache.json, with an encrypted entry per mode and per region. HintSheet's fetcher reads that file several times a day and lists the champion for each mode and region with the puzzle number; it adds no attributes or clue text. The five modes, ranked by how much a miss tells you

From most to least, by what the game's help screens say each miss gives you.

• Classic — seven coloured properties per guess, plus an arrow on release year. The only mode where every wrong guess eliminates champions.
• Emoji — each guess reveals one more emoji.
• Splash — each try zooms the crop out a bit.
• Ability — the icon stays the same; the ability's name unlocks after six tries.
• Quote — the text stays the same; an audio clue unlocks after six tries.

LoLdle and the roster's growth

The roster grows as Riot releases champions. In the champion data shipped with LoLdle's code on 11 October 2026 the most recent entries are Zaahen (dated 19 November 2025) and Locke (24 June 2026); seven are dated 2024 or later. Each release adds a value at the top of the release-year column. Puzzle numbers give the game's age: Europe's puzzle on 11 October 2026 was #1557.

Reader questions

"Which region am I on?" The game's Time zone setting shows Europe or America; the answer page lists both with puzzle numbers.

"What does Position mean?" The help screen's definition: the positions where the champion's play rate was above 20% over the past six months, for all ranks.

"Who has 'Other' gender?" In the roster data, three champions: Blitzcrank, Fiddlesticks and Kindred.

LoLdle's five modes in one sitting

Each of the five modes has its own daily champion. In our files for 2 September to 11 October 2026 no champion repeated within a single mode, while the same champion did turn up across modes — Kalista appears in all five at different points of the window. An Infinite button, "the unlimited Classic mode", appears once unlocked, and a Worlds Mayhem button when the site switches that event on. HintSheet records only the five daily modes.

Species values in LoLdle's roster data (read 11 October 2026), grouped by how many of the 173 champions carry each. Champions can carry several values, so the counts overlap.

Ability mode, letter by letter

The Ability mode shows a single icon with no letter; the ability's name unlocks as a clue after six tries. The letters come afterwards: once the champion is found, a bonus question asks whether the icon is the Passive, Q, W, E or R. In LoLdle's cache the icon is an image from Riot's Data Dragon CDN (for Zilean on 11 October 2026, Time Warp). In Classic, a hidden ability icon is one of the clues — it unlocks after 12 guesses, after the quote clue at 6 and before a splash crop at 18.

A forty-day record

Our archive holds 40 daily LoLdle files, 2 September to 11 October 2026, covering puzzles #1518 to #1558 across both regions and 41 distinct Classic answers, from 2009 champions such as Zilean and Alistar to recent ones such as Yunara and Mel (Ability mode). Forty days is too short to show any preference in the draw, so this site claims none; the archive lists every day.

Resource, the sleeper column

In the roster data 145 of 173 champions use Mana, so a red on a Mana guess removes 145 champions and a green only 28. The other values are small: Manaless (7, including Garen, Katarina and Riven), Energy (6 — Akali, Ambessa, Kennen, Lee Sin, Shen, Zed), Health costs (3), Fury (3), Rage (2), and one champion each for Courage, Shield, Ferocity, Heat, Grit, Bloodthirst and Flow. A green on any non-Mana value leaves at most seven champions.

• Partial — an orange tile: your guess and the answer share some but not all values (Position, Species, Range type, Region).
• Resource — the bar the champion uses in game: Mana, Energy, Manaless or one of the champion-specific bars.
• Release year — the ordered column; a red tile there carries an up or down arrow.
• Splash crop — the zoomed section of a splash art (original or any skin) the Splash mode shows.
• Region — both the lore column in Classic and the Europe/America time-zone setting; context makes it clear.

Reader questions, second round

"Can I play more than once a day?" The Infinite mode, described in the menu as the unlimited Classic mode, becomes available once unlocked; the daily puzzles stay one per mode per region.

"Is the Quote mode in English only?" The line follows the site's language setting, flagged as automatically translated where League of Legends lacks that language. HintSheet lists only the champion's name.
