LoLdle is the League of Legends guessing game from the developer behind Pokedle and Dotadle, and the most-played of the three. Five modes, one champion each per day: Classic identifies the champion from attribute feedback; Quote gives you a voice line; Ability shows an ability icon; Emoji describes the champion in emoji; Splash shows a zoomed crop of a splash art. The roster is 170-odd champions, which is small enough that Classic is solvable in three or four guesses with a method and large enough that guessing favourites takes eight.
Today's five answers are on the LoLdle answers today page, listed for both the Europe and America puzzles. This guide is mostly about Classic — the columns, what each colour means, and the first guess that halves the roster — with notes on the four recognition modes.
Classic's seven columns
After each guess the game colours seven attributes. Gender (male, female, other), Position (top, jungle, mid, bottom, support — champions can have several), Species (human, yordle, vastaya, void-born and so on), Resource (mana, energy, none, and the rarer ones), Range type (melee, ranged), Region (Demacia, Noxus, Ionia, Shurima, Runeterra…), and Release year with an arrow. Green is an exact match; red is no match; yellow on Position or Species means partial overlap (the champion shares one of several values); the year arrow points toward the answer's release year.
Gender is male, female or other (a handful of champions — Kindred, Rek'Sai's kin — take the third value). Position can be any of top, jungle, mid, bottom or support and is frequently two or three. Species runs from human and yordle through vastaya, void-born, darkin, god, spirit and a dozen others. Resource is mana for most, energy for a few, and a scatter of bespoke bars — fury, rage, heat, bloodwell, courage — that identify a champion almost on their own when green. Range type is melee or ranged, with a few champions counted as both. Region is a lore region; multi-region champions return yellow for a partial. Release year runs from 2009 with a ↑/↓ arrow.
The splitting first guess
Release year is the strongest column because its arrow halves the roster. A champion released around 2013–2014 — the median — is the best opener on that column alone. Pair it with the most common values elsewhere: male, human, mana, ranged or melee (roughly even), and a populated region like Ionia or Demacia. A guess like that returns four or five informative colours and an arrow, and the second guess — changing every red, keeping every green, moving the year in the arrow's direction — usually leaves fewer than ten candidates.
Positions are the column most players over-weight. Because champions flex across roles, Position is yellow far more often than green, and a yellow tells you less than it seems. Use it to confirm, not to search.
A Classic game, narrated
The Europe answer for #1518 was Cassiopeia. I opened with Jinx — female, bottom, human, mana, ranged, Zaun, 2013. Feedback: Gender green, Position red, Species red, Resource green, Range red, Region red, Year ↓. So: a female non-human melee mana user from outside Zaun, released before 2013.
Second guess Nami? No — ranged. Second guess Elise: female, jungle, human/spider — the game lists her species as human or arachnid; Shadow Isles; 2012; melee/ranged both. Feedback: Position red, Species yellow (shares one value), Region red, Year ↓ still, Range yellow. Before 2012, female, melee, a species that overlaps Elise's.
Third guess Cassiopeia: female, mid, human/serpent, mana, ranged… ranged? Cassiopeia is ranged. That contradicts Range red on Jinx — unless Jinx's Range red was against 'ranged' and the answer is 'melee'? Cassiopeia is ranged, so the Jinx feedback must have been… I misread it: it was green. Which is the real lesson of this section — one misread cell sends you down the wrong half of the roster for two guesses. Read every cell, and if a guess contradicts what you think you know, recheck the earlier feedback before trusting the later.
Every LoLdle mistake I've made in a year of playing was a misread cell, not a bad guess. Slow down at the feedback.— HintSheet LoLdle notes
The recognition modes
Quote shows a voice line with the champion's name blanked; misses reveal nothing extra, so this is pure recall. Lines that reference a region or a rival narrow it; generic combat lines are the hard days.
Ability shows an ability icon and, after a wrong guess, the ability's letter (Q, W, E, R). Icon art style dates the champion — early champions have simpler icons — and the letter halves the possibilities.
Emoji describes the champion in a handful of emoji, revealed one at a time. The first is usually the theme (a weapon, an animal, an element); by the third the champion is generally obvious.
Splash shows a small crop of a splash art that widens with each miss. Colour and lighting often identify the skin line before the champion; the crop's position on the full art is stated on the answer page for the curious.
Europe and America, and the reset
Like Pokedle, LoLdle runs two independent daily puzzles by region. On 3 September 2026 the Europe puzzle was #1518 and the America puzzle #1519, with different champions in every mode. Both reset at midnight UTC. HintSheet's answer page lists both, labelled, because the champion you get depends on which region the site assigned you.
Where the answers come from
LoLdle's front end fetches the day's puzzle for every mode; HintSheet reads the same data at reset and lists the champion for each mode with the Classic attributes attached. The Pokedle guide and Dotadle guide cover the sister games, which share the interface and the logic; the Dle games hub has the family overview.
The five modes, ranked by how much a miss tells you
From most informative to least.
- Classic — seven columns of feedback per miss. The only mode where a wrong guess is progress.
- Ability — the ability letter (Q/W/E/R) after a miss narrows by a quarter.
- Emoji — one more emoji per miss; the third usually settles it.
- Splash — the crop widens per miss; skins can mislead.
- Quote — nothing further is revealed. Pure recall.
LoLdle and the roster's growth
LoLdle launched in 2022 with the roster of the time and has added each new champion on release, which means the release-year column's upper end keeps moving. The puzzle count — #1,518 for Europe on 3 September 2026 — dates the game to spring 2022. Champions reworked since then keep their original release year; a visual update doesn't change the column. Region assignments follow Riot's lore updates, so a champion moved to a new region in the lore is moved in the game, occasionally catching regular players out.
Reader questions
"Which region am I on?" The site's settings show it; the answer page lists both.
"Does Position use current meta or lore?" The game's own role assignments, which follow Riot's champion classifications rather than the current pro meta.
"What's 'other' gender?" A handful of non-binary or non-human champions — Kindred, Rek'Sai's kin, some Void champions.
LoLdle's five modes across a week
Classic is the mode people compete on and the one with a learnable method. Quote is the mode people share, because a well-chosen line makes a good story. Ability, Emoji and Splash are the fillers most players do after Classic, and they're where the easy 'one-guess' days live — an ultimate icon, a signature emoji, a famous splash. If you're short on time, Classic and Quote are the two that matter; the answer page has the other three.
Species, listed
The species values the game uses, grouped by how many champions carry them. Knowing the small groups is what makes a Species green decisive.
| Group size | Species values | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Large (20+) | Human | A red here is the big elimination |
| Medium (5–20) | Yordle, Vastaya, Void-born, Spirit, Undead | A green narrows to a handful |
| Small (1–4) | Darkin, God, Golem, Celestial, Demon, Minotaur, Brackern, Yeti… | A green is the answer or nearly |
Ability mode, letter by letter
After a miss the game shows the ability's key — Q, W, E or R. Ultimates (R) have the most distinctive icons and the most recognisable names; a revealed R with an icon you half-remember is usually a two-guess day. Passives aren't used. Icon style also dates the champion: the original 2009–2011 icons are simpler and more saturated, the post-2015 icons more painterly, and the visual-update champions have new icons that no longer match their release year — which is one of the few ways the Ability mode can mislead.
A weekly rhythm
Weekday Classic answers lean toward popular champions with clean attribute profiles; weekend answers reach into the roster's corners — multi-region champions, the rare resource types, the 'other' gender values — where partial matches multiply. The Quote mode is hardest at weekends for the same reason. Open the same way every day and let the year arrow carry you; when a weekend board's partials pile up, the answer page is the honest exit.
Resource, the sleeper column
Most champions use mana, so Resource green on a mana guess narrows little and red narrows a lot. The bespoke resources are the sleeper: fury (Renekton, Tryndamere, Shyvana), rage (Gnar, Rengar), heat (Rumble), bloodwell (Aatrox — historically), courage (Kled), flow (Yasuo, Yone), shield (Mordekaiser), ferocity (Rengar), and 'none' for the manaless — Garen, Katarina, Riven, Zed's energy cousins aside. A green on any of those is one to four champions. Since most players never guess a bespoke-resource champion, the column sits unused; a second-guess Riven or Garen — manaless — is a cheap way to test the 'none' value and, with Range and Species, often finishes the game.
Glossary
Terms as used on this site.
- Partial — a yellow on a multi-valued column (Position, Species, Region, Range).
- Resource — the champion's ability bar: mana, energy, a bespoke bar, or none.
- Release year — the ordered column with the ↑/↓ arrow.
- Splash crop — the zoomed piece of splash art the Splash mode shows.
- Region — both the lore region column and the Europe/America puzzle split; context makes it clear.
Reader questions, second round
"Do reworked champions keep their release year?" Yes — the original year; a visual or gameplay update doesn't change it.
"Is the Quote mode in English only?" The line is shown in the site's language setting; HintSheet lists the English line.
