OnePiecedle: Classic, Devil Fruit and Laugh modes, and the crew-and-saga logic that narrows a thousand characters

The Classic columns

Gender; Affiliation — Straw Hats, Marines, a Warlord's crew, an Emperor's crew, Revolutionary Army, and so on, multi-valued for characters who changed sides; Devil fruit — Paramecia, Zoan, Logia, or none; Haki — Observation, Armament, Conqueror's, in any combination; Bounty with an arrow, from zero to the billions; Height with an arrow; and Debut saga with an arrow, from East Blue to the Final Saga.

Bounty is the single strongest column: it orders the cast across seven orders of magnitude, and the arrow after one guess tells you whether you are looking at a rookie or an Emperor. Debut saga is the second. Between the two arrows, two guesses bracket the answer into a saga *and* a power tier, which is usually a dozen characters.

An opener for a thousand characters

Middle of both ordered columns: a character who debuted around Water 7 or Thriller Bark, with a bounty in the low hundreds of millions, from a well-populated affiliation (a Straw Hat is fine — the crew is large and green on Affiliation leaves ten). Male, no devil fruit, with Armament haki. That guess puts both arrows in play and returns a green or an informative red on the rest.

Then move every red and follow both arrows. If Bounty says ↑ and Saga says ↓, you're looking at an early-debuting heavyweight — a Warlord or an admiral — and the pool is small. If both say ↑, it's a late-series powerhouse.

A Classic game against a thousand names

Europe #885's answer was Inuarashi, the Mink duke of Zou. Opener: Franky — male, Straw Hat, no fruit, Armament haki, bounty 394 million, 2.4 m, debut Water 7. Feedback: Gender green, Affiliation red, Fruit green (none), Haki yellow (shares Armament), Bounty ↓, Height ↑, Saga ↑. A tall, non-fruit, non-Straw-Hat male with a smaller bounty who debuted after Water 7.

Second guess Kin'emon — samurai, Wano, no fruit, Armament, bounty unknown, 2.95 m, debut Punk Hazard. Gender green, Affiliation red, Fruit green, Haki yellow, Bounty ↓ (still lower), Height ↑ (taller still), Saga ↑ (later still). Very tall, later than Punk Hazard, low or no bounty, an ally not a Straw Hat.

Third guess Nekomamushi — Mink, Zou, no fruit, Armament and Observation, bounty small, 3.22 m, debut Zou. Affiliation green (Mink Tribe), Haki green, Bounty green, Height ↑ (taller than 3.22!), Saga green. The tallest Mink who debuted at Zou with that haki and bounty: Inuarashi. Fourth guess, green across the board. The height arrow alone would have taken six guesses; the saga arrow plus affiliation did it in four.

Devil Fruit and Laugh

Devil Fruit shows the fruit's name or image. Famous fruits — Gomu Gomu, Mera Mera, Ope Ope — are one-guess days. Obscure Paramecia belong to minor villains and are the hard days; the type (Zoan fruits are animals, Logia are elements) at least narrows the affiliation.

Laugh shows the laugh's spelling — "Shishishi", "Zehahaha", "Wahahaha" — and that's all. It works because Oda gives every important character a distinct one. If you don't know it, the vowel pattern still helps: the harsher consonants belong to villains.

Reading the bounty column as a timeline

Bounties in One Piece are revised as the story goes, and OnePiecedle uses each character's latest known bounty. That has a useful side effect: bounty and debut saga are correlated for pirates (later debuts tend to carry larger bounties) but *anti-correlated* for the Straw Hats individually (early debuts, bounties that have climbed into the billions). If Bounty says ↑ and Saga says ↓, you're looking at an early-debut character whose bounty has grown enormously — a Straw Hat, an Emperor, or a Warlord — and that is a very short list.

Regions and reset

OnePiecedle runs Europe and America puzzles daily (#885 and #886 on 3 September 2026) with a midnight UTC reset; both are on the answer page. The engine is shared with Narutodle and the rest of the family, so the feedback rules transfer.

Devil fruit types as a column

The Devil Fruit column in Classic holds four values — Paramecia, Zoan, Logia, none — and 'none' is the majority. A guess with no fruit that returns red means the answer *has* a fruit, which removes more than half the pool. A Zoan green narrows to the Zoan users, a smaller group than it seems once the Beast Pirates are excluded by other columns. Logia green is the most decisive value in the game: fewer than thirty characters.

How the answer pool is chosen

OnePiecedle draws from characters with an entry on the major wikis and a reasonable amount of screen time; one-scene characters are excluded. That still leaves several hundred, weighted toward the Straw Hats, the Marines' named officers, the Warlords and Emperors and their crews, the Revolutionary Army, and the named citizens of the major arcs. Filler and movie-only characters are excluded. When the manga introduces a major new character, the game tends to add them within a few weeks; the answer page's attribute data reflects the game's own record for each character.

Haki as a column

Haki is multi-valued — Observation, Armament, Conqueror's, in any combination including none — and partial matches are common. The decisive value is Conqueror's: fewer than forty characters have it, and they are the series' heavyweights. A guess with Conqueror's that returns green on Haki narrows the pool to those characters immediately; a red on a Conqueror's guess removes them all. Because Conqueror's users also skew toward high bounties and early debuts, the Haki green tends to agree with a bounty ↑ and a saga ↓ — the same archetype as the arrows table above.

Reader questions

"Does the game use the manga or the anime?" The manga's information, with anime-only characters excluded.

"What height unit?" Centimetres, as the wikis list them; giants run into the thousands.

"Are Straw Hat bounties current?" The latest revealed bounty — post-Wano for the crew.

Playing it across a week

OnePiecedle's answer pool leans toward major characters on weekdays and reaches deeper — Zou Minks, Whole Cake Tea Party guests, Egghead scientists — at weekends, when the games' developer sets the harder puzzles. If a weekend bounty arrow says ↓ against a Supernova guess and the saga arrow says ↑, you are in the late-series-ally quadrant, and the pool is small but obscure; the Laugh mode is often easier than Classic on those days because the laughs are distinctive even for minor characters.

Affiliation, and the many-valued problem

Affiliation is the column with the most values and the most partial matches: crews, organisations, navies, kingdoms, and for many characters more than one across the story. The game grades a partial when any affiliation overlaps, so a guess of a Marine returns yellow against every character who was ever a Marine — including several who left. That makes Affiliation a poor search column and a good confirmation column. The exception is the Straw Hats: a green there is a ten-character pool, and a red on a Straw Hat guess removes the crew cleanly.

The practical reading: use Bounty and Saga arrows to find the quadrant, use Devil Fruit and Haki to cut it, and read Affiliation last to pick the character.

Devil Fruit mode: reading a fruit you don't recognise

The fruit name follows a pattern — a repeated syllable (Gomu Gomu, Mera Mera, Gura Gura) and, for Zoans, 'Model: X'. The repeated syllable is Japanese onomatopoeia or a shortened word, and it often hints at the power: 'Mera' for flame, 'Gura' for tremor, 'Hie' for ice. Zoan models name the animal or mythical creature outright, and the mythical Zoans belong to a short list of major characters. If the fruit is an obscure Paramecia, the answer is probably a mid-tier villain from a single arc, and the arc is usually guessable from when that kind of power appeared in the story.

A weekly rhythm

Weekday answers are Straw Hats, Marines and the famous villains; weekend answers are the long tail — Whole Cake guests, Zou Minks, Egghead staff — where bounty is often unknown and the arrows go quiet. On those days, Devil Fruit and Laugh are the modes to solve first: they're recognition-based and the setters choose distinctive ones for obscure characters.

Height as an arrow

One Piece's cast ranges from under a metre to over ten, and the height arrow is more useful than in any other Dle game because the outliers are so extreme. A guess of a giant (Dorry, Brogy, Oars) that returns ↓ removes the giants and the largest Fish-Men; a guess of a normal-sized human that returns ↑ points at the Minks, the Whitebeard commanders, the Beast Pirates' officers — the tall tier that contains a surprising share of the weekend answers. Height and bounty together, read as a pair of arrows, place a character in one of six or eight archetype boxes before affiliation or fruit has said a word.

Reader questions, second round

"Are non-human races like Fish-Men and Minks their own affiliation?" They appear under a race or crew value depending on the character; Minks read as the Mink Tribe, Fish-Men by crew.

"What's the largest bounty in the game?" The Emperors' — into the billions; a ↑ arrow past three billion leaves a handful.

"Do Marines have bounties?" No — the column reads none or unknown, which is itself a filter.

Thirty seconds that save two guesses.

• Pick an opener from the middle of both ordered columns (Water 7–Thriller Bark debut, low-hundreds-of-millions bounty).
• Prefer a well-populated affiliation so a green narrows and a red removes a block.
• No devil fruit on the opener — 'none' is the majority and a red is decisive.
• Include Armament haki; a yellow there is common and a red is rare and informative.
• Read the two arrows together before touching any single column.
